A Muslim Convert Once Before

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ What would Islam be like if it only relied on the Qur’an, instead of the ahadits ? ”   In a nutshell, it would not be Islam.  There is no Islam without the example of the Prophet (s.a.w.).  As Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi himself said, “It is ‘ Muhammadan Rasulullah ’ that makes us Muslim.  The Qur’an is also clear in innumerable verses that the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) is the best example, that we should follow that example, and the prerequisite of being a believer is love of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), and his sunnah .

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “If we asked what the most circulated book any human being ever wrote on the face of the Earth is, what is the best seller in the Islamic world - a hundred years ago the answer would not be Swahih al-Bukhari , because Swahih al-Bukhari is for the ‘ulama .  The answer would be Dala’il al-Khayrat .”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ   In a direct criticism of Wahhabi influence, Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “Mass conversions were occurring up until 200 years ago, by presenting the Prophet (s.a.w.) first.  Now, ‘ da’wah ’ is only about bid’ah , and shirk .”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “The Prophet ( s.a.w. ) encouraged us to make du’a , but we must have perfect adab when making du’a .  When you present your case to Allah ( s.w.t. ), you must present it in the best manner, but the best manner sometimes is not to speak of your case.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “There are people who do not do anything in their daily lives, but they remain in the company of the awliya’ , and become awliya’ .”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “When you sit with gnostics, they are not with you; they are with Allah ( s.w.t. ).”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “Sufis are children in the Custody of Allah ( s.w.t. ); they never worry about anything.”

‎ بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “Just before fajr , before dawn, he was born.  And did you know that this is the time our du’a is Answered?  Why?  Our du’a is Answered at this hour because Rasulullah ( s.a.w. ) was born at this hour.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi, said, “‘ Laa ilaha illa Allah ’ does not make us Muslim; ‘ Muhammadar Rasulullah ’ does.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ   Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi wrote:   “Our words are Divine Gifts; Our silence is merely a cover. Our door is open for anyone, Who is heading for this Quarter. Our tastes are delicacies; Our secrets are attributed to the Essence. Our moves, when we shake, May wake the dead in this Quarter.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “My father gave me a precious piece of advice: Never engage in refutations.  And one of the basic pieces of wisdom we learnt from the ‘ulama is the following: Never lend your ears to a deviant, to a person of aberrance.  Because the moment you lend your ears, he owns you; he has control over you.  That is to say, a drop will not leave any traces on a rock, but continuing dropping on the same spot will leave some impact after a while.  All they need from you is to listen.  Listening once, then again and again, will convince you that this is the truth.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “Give people a chance to love Islam by showing them love even if you do not like what they do; love is the most powerful way to win people.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “Do not belittle any human being.  He may be a friend of Allah ( s.w.t. ).”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya ’ qubi, said, “Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) made it absolutely forbidden to kill women, children, elderly and religious people in even in state of war.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi, said, “No insult to Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) is worse than killing innocent people in his name.  He said human life is more precious than the Ka’bah.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “To defeat ISIS, we need to destroy its extremist ideology.”   That extremist ideology is Wahhabism.

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “If you pray on the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) half an hour every day, holding your swubhah ; if you do this for half an hour, I guarantee you that you are going to take on his character.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “When you come to the Messenger of Allah ( s.a.w. ), you do not come with the needs of the dunya ; rather you bring one need to him, which is akhirah .  The most important thing that you need from the Messenger of Allah ( s.a.w. ) is about your akhirah .”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “Never let your desires take you away from your Lord; be like a mountain when facing desires, and be like dust when facing your Lord.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi said, “If you want to know whether you are on the true path of love or not, then look at the level of love you have for the Beloved ( s.a.w. ); is it increasing or decreasing?”
