Quora Answer: If a Muslimah Gets Her Period in Ramadhan, Should She Hide It from Her Parents?

Image
The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ If a muslimah gets her period in Ramadhan, then should she hide it from her parents? ”   That is plain stupid.  She is having her period.  She is not taking part in human blood sacrifice to summon Satan.  What is there to hide?  Muslim families are quite familiar with the fact that women have times in the month when they cannot pray or fast.  There is nothing special about this.

The Sharing Group Discussion on Sayyidina ‘Ali ibn Abu Thalib’s (k.w.) Monogamy

Image
Sister Inga Härmälä asked, on The Sharing Group, on the 24 th October 2017, “Can polygamy be considered a sunnah ?   The Prophet ( s.a.w. ) himself set an example of monogamy and later an example of a type of polygamy which is prohibited for normal Muslims more than 4 wives.   So we cannot see his type of polygamy as a sunnah for us to follow, right?   On the other hand, the marriage contracts he negotiated for his daughters, at least in the case of Sayyidatina Zaynab ( r.a. ) and Sayyidatina Fathimah az-Zahrah ( r.a. ) were strictly monogamous.   So which of these sunan can we follow?”   Brother Terence Helikaon Nunis: The Prophet ( s.a.w. ) married widows, single mothers and women considered ugly, poor, old, sickly or otherwise undesirable.   Who can live up to that?   It is an easier sunnah to marry one wife and fulfill one’s obligations, than to marry many and disappoint them all.   More than one ...

Quora Answer: Are Muslim Women Expected to Obey Their Husbands at All Times?

Image
The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ Are Muslim women really expected to obey their husbands at all times?  What does the Qur’an Say about this? ”   The Qur’an does not say anything of that sort.  In Islam, men and women are equal but different.  Whilst the wife must respect the husband, there is nothing in the religion about unconditional obedience.  This is culture.  On the allegation that a husband may hit his wife, this is again, another misunderstanding perpetrated by Muslims themselves.  Just as in the previous, they use the religion to perpetuate a culture of misogyny.   The verse in question is this:

Quora Answer: Can Non-Muslims Wear a Hijab?

Image
The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ Is it acceptable for non-Muslims to wear a hijab ? ”   Non-Muslims were wearing the “ hijab ” long before there was an Islam.   People call it a scarf.   There is nothing special about the hijab .   It is not sacred.   It is a piece of cloth covering the head.   People wear it for a variety of reasons, from the belief that jurisprudence requires it, to cultural adherence, to expediency, to simply aesthetics.   The hijab has no position in theology, and Muslims have no ownership of it.

Quora Answer: Is It Fair to Ban the Burqa, Hijab & Niqab on Security Grounds?

Image
The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ On security grounds, is it fair to ban the burqa’ , hijab , or niqab ? ”   Strictly on the basis security, it is difficult to justify banning the hijab , which is essentially a scarf.   Are we then going to ban all manner of scarves, or any piece of cloth covering the head?   What about turbans, caps, berets or helmets?   We cannot claim it is because women are hiding bombs under those scarves.   The niqab and the burqa , on the other hand, are clear security concerns because it hides the face, making identification of people in a high stress situation, and controlling a crowd, difficult.   Suicide bombers only require a split second, and there is a lot of room under the burqa for a suicide belt.
