The State of Shaykh Abu al-Hasan Samnun ibn Hamzah (q.s.)
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Imam Abu al-Qasim ‘Abd al-Karim ibn Huzan al-Qushayri ( r.a. ) recorded, in his Risalah al-Qushayriyyah , Shaykh Samnun ibn Hamzah’s ( q.s. ) kunya was Abu al-Hasan, though some said it was Abu al-Qasim. He studied with Shaykh Abu al-Hasan Sirri ibn Mughallis as-Saqathi ( q.s. ), Imam Abu Ahmad Muhammad ibn ‘Ali al-Karaji al-Qassab ( r.a. ), and others. It is said that he recited, “I find no delight in anyone but You, so Test me as You Wish!” As soon as he said that, he was afflicted by urine retention.
