The Sleeping Ascetic

Image
One of the reports states that Jesus ( a.s. ), son of Mary ( a.s. ) passed by a sleeping man while the people were worshipping.  Jesus ( a.s. ) said to him, “Rise and worship with the people.”   He replied, “I have worshipped, Spirit of Allah.”   He asked him, “And what was your worship?”   He replied, “I left this world to its people.”   He told him, “Sleep.  This is an excellent worship!”

Voices Crying in the Wilderness

Image
As the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) said, Islam came as a stranger and it will come again as a stranger.   So be with those who are strange for they are the friends of God.   This is especially important in this age, where those who claim to speak for the religion and wear the trappings of the pious desecrate it, and people give more credence to titles than their conscience, even though the Prophet (s.a.w.) told us, “ Istafti qalbak ”, “Consult your heart”, the seat of fithrah .   It is not mere letter of the law that matters, but the Divine Intent.   The foundation of shari’ah can be best summed up in the words of Jesus ( a.s. ) in the Gospel:   Matthew 5:17-19 17 “Do not think that I have come to set aside the law and the prophets; I have not come to set them aside, but to bring them to perfection.   18 Believe me, Heaven and Earth must disappear sooner than one jot, one flourish should disappear from the law;...

Quora Answer: Why Did They Change the Name of God to “Allah”?

Image
The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ Why did they change the Name of God to “Allah” if it was the same prophet as in the Old Testament? ”   You have forgotten that the Old Testament was not written in English.   It was not even written in a Germanic or Romance language.   That means the Name, “God”, does not actually appear in the text.   The word “god” is Germanic in origin, “ gott ”, meaning “to invoke”.   It came into the English language in the 6 th century, from the Codex Argenteus.   In Aramaic, the language of much of the earlier gospels, and the language Jesus ( a.s. ) likely spoke, the word for “God”, depending on the sentence structure and tense, was “ Ilaha ”, or “ Alaha ”.   Arabic, being the related language, used “ Allah ”.   In Hebrew, it is “ Elohim ”, which is the pluralised form of “ Eloh ”, or “ Eloha ”.   This means the Qur’an’s use of “Allah” is very close t...

The Closeness of the Prophet (s.a.w.) and Jesus (a.s.)

Image
The Prophet ( s.a.w. ) said, “I am the best of people in kinship to Jesus, son of Mary, both in this world and in the Hereafter.   There is no prophet between myself and him.   The prophets are the sons of many wives, their mothers are different, but their religion is the same.”   He also said, “Those of you who reach Jesus, son of Mary, give him the greeting of peace from me.”

The Sharing Group Discussion: If Jesus (a.s.) Did Not Die, Why Did Judas Kill Himself ?

Image
The following question was asked by Sister Aaminah Shiah , on The Sharing Group, on the 20 th November 2016: “ If Jesus ( a.s. ) did not die, as the Bible states, why did Judas kill himself? ”   Brother Marquis Dawkins : While Islam does not even acknowledge Judas, some of the scholars who take the substitution theory, say that it was Judas who was crucified instead.   So the “killing himself” had to be explained elsewhere.   Even in the Gospels, there is a discrepancy with it, as one story says he threw the 30 pieces of silver back at the Jews and immediately hanged himself afterwards:   Matthew 27:3-5 3 And now Judas, his betrayer, was full of remorse at seeing him condemned, so that he brought back to the chief priests and elders their thirty pieces of silver; 4 “I have sinned,” he told them, “in betraying the blood of an innocent man.”   “What is that to us?” they said.   “It concerns thee only.”  ...
