Mercy Comes before Knowledge

Image
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ   Shaykh Muhammad ibn Yahya an-Ninuwy said, “In Surah ar-Rahman, Allah ( s.w.t. ) Introduces Himself as ‘ar-Rahman, the One Who Taught the Qur’an’.   Notice the ayah starts with Mercy before Knowledge?   There is a message in that for us, that mercy comes before knowledge.   If you have knowledge but no mercy, then you are a loaded cannon ready to unleash, and make the lives of people miserable.   Have mercy before knowledge, as mercy and forgiveness are the two wings you fly with to Allah ( s.w.t. ).   If you break one of the wings, you cannot fly properly.   If you take away mercy, you are taking the heart of the Diyn .”   سُوۡرَةُ الرَّحمٰن بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ (١) عَلَّمَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ (٢)   In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful (Allah) Most Gracious!   It is He Who has Taught the Qur’an. (Surah ar-Rahman:1-2)

Love ought to Change Us

Image
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Muhammad ibn Yahya an-Ninuwy said, “Love ought to change you.  If love remains only lip service, you do not love.  If love does not change you from the inside, from your heart and soul, and if it does not fundamentally change your behaviour, your words and even in your non-verbal communication; then you have not even started, then you are just a talker.”

A Definition of ‘Ilm

Image
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Muhammad ibn Yahya an-Ninuwy said, “ ‘Ilm is not memorisation of lines from a book or storing mass information in memory.  A computer can hold masses and masses of information.  Rather, knowledge is internalisation of the sacred texts.  Knowledge is presence of soul and state; information that is not internalised and practised is just information, not real ‘ilm , and has no benefit.  The whole purpose is to be transformed.”
