A Muslim Convert Once Before

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ   The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ Why do more Western Muslims not follow the Ahmadiyyah ? ”   What exactly should Muslims follow them in?   It is clear that many people are not familiar with their doctrinal position and why the ‘ulama have been unanimous, whether Sunni or Shi’ah, that they are kuffar , disbelievers.   The Ahmadis, as they call themselves, are a group of two sects from Qadiyan, India, who are the followers of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.   Ghulam Ahmad claimed to be a descendent of Jesus ( a.s. ).   He denied what the Qur’an States about Jesus ( a.s. ) being “Raised” to Allah (s.w.t.).   Instead, he said Jesus ( a.s. ) made his way to Kashmir, married a local woman and died there.   And of course, he is that descendant.   He then claimed in his book, that he is “Muhammad reborn.”   He wrote, “I am Jesus, I am Krishna, I am Muhammad.”   He said that whoever does ...

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ Does the Asatidzah Recognition Scheme also apply to Ahmadiyyah religious leaders in Singapore? ”   The Ahmadiyyah sect, or the Qadiyaniyyah , as they are known here, are not party to the Administration of Muslim Law Act, and not recognised as Muslims.   They are treated as a separate religion.   In 1969, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore and the Association of Religious Scholars of Singapore issued a fatwa that the Qadiyaniyyah are outside the fold of Islam.   As such, they have no religious teachers accredited under the ARS, they do not get married at the Registry of Muslim Marriages, and they do not plead their cases at the shari’ah court.   Their place of worship is not allowed to be called a “mosque”.   It is known as the Ahmadi Community Centre.

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ A preacher in an Amritsar mosque claimed that he was more learned than Imam Abu Hanifah Nu’man ibn Tsabit ( r.a. ) because he remembered more ahadits .  This fact was brought to the attention of Mawlana ‘Abd al-Jabbar al-Ghaznawi ( r.a. ), who was his teacher.  Mawlana ‘Abd al-Jabbar ( r.a. ) rusticated the offender from his school, and predicted that he would become an apostate.  After a week, he became a follower of the deviant, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.  Someone later asked Mawlana ‘Abd al-Jabbar ( r.a. ), how he knew that that this man, called ‘Abd al-‘Ali would apostatise, he replied. “I was reminded of a hadits , from Swahih al-Bukhari , which Allah ( s.w.t. ) states, ‘I Declare war on the enemies of my friends.’”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ If a Sunni scholar condemns the Ahmadis to kufr because of their belief in another prophet after Muhammad ( s.a.w. ), but does not condemn the Wahhabis for shirk for their belief in an antromorphic god, he is being a munafiq .  These scholars who defend the Wahhabis and claim they are another misunderstood aspect of the ummah are either leading others astray, or do not understand the theology of Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab and his followers.

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ When it comes to the different sects in Islam, we often forget that theological positions evolve.  So, saying such and such group believes a certain thing may be correct then, but incorrect now.   For example, what we know as the ‘Alawiyyah Shi’ah sect was outright heretical 700 or so years ago.  It was documented that they believed in reincarnation, which is absolutely unacceptable to Islam.  Now, due to rapprochement by the Itsna’ ‘Ashari , they are indistinguishable in their belief in Imamiyyah , and are a separate sect in name only.   A classic early example would be the splinter group of the Khwarij which went mainstream and eventually evolved into the Ibadhi sect.  This sect predates both Sunni and Shi ’ ah Islam.   When it comes to the Qadiyani sect, we reject their belief in the prophethood of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.  And then they split into two branches, with the Qadiyani Ahmadi adhering to the...
