The Prophet’s (s.a.w.) Defence of the Banu Ka’b

Image
Shaykh   Abu ‘Abdullah  Muhammad ibn Ishaq ( r.a. ) said, as found in Shaykh Abu Muhammad ‘Abd al-Malik ibn Hisham al-Baswri’s ( r.a. ) Sirah an-Nabawiyyah , that Banu Bakr and the Quraysh defeated Banu Khuza’ah, and looted them.   This violated the terms of the solemn pact to which they had agreed with the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), by warring with the Khuza’ah, his formal allies, Sayyidina ‘Amr ibn Salim al-Khuza’i ( r.a. ), one of the Banu Ka’b there, rode out until he came to see the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) in Madina.   His coming gave the impetus for the conquest of Makkah.   He stood before the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) as the latter sat in the mosque, in full sight of the people, and declaimed the following:   “Lord!   I am appealing to Muhammad, By the time-honoured pact of both our fathers. You were a father and we, a son; Then we entered Islam and remained loyal. Help us, and may Allah Help you always! Summon ...

The Prophet’s (s.a.w.) Highest Level of Intelligence

Image
Shaykh ‘Utsman Nuri Tufbas wrote, in “The Prophet Muhammad Muswthafa the Elect ( s.a.w. )”, fathanah implies that prophets possess the highest level of intelligence, reason and insight among mankind.   They have been gifted with strength of memory, a piercing cognition and solid power for judgment and persuasion.   Fathanah is not a tedious exercise of reason and logic; it much rather represents a level of comprehension beyond genius, the expression of reason, prudence and insight that abides with the heart.   To impeccably complete their duties, prophets need to be in possession of peerless intelligence.   They would otherwise be unable to put forward to the people the case that they have been sent for and convince them of its truth.   Prophets solve even the most obscure and intricate problems with ease.   Wrapping even the most complex issues in the shroud of ease enables their words to be put across with clari...

Allah (s.w.t.) Admonished al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah

There is a story behind when Allah ( s.w.t. ) Revealed the verse, about the aftermath of the Isra’ wa al-Mi’raj :   سُوۡرَةُ بنیٓ اسرآئیل / الإسرَاء ... وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا ٱلرُّءۡيَا ٱلَّتِىٓ أَرَيۡنَـٰكَ إِلَّا فِتۡنَةً۬ لِّلنَّاسِ ... (٦٠)   … We Granted the Vision which We Showed you, but as a trial for men … (Surah al-Isra’:60)   Shaykh Abu Muhammad ‘Abd al-Malik ibn Hisham al-Baswri ( r.a. ) narrated that when the fair was due, a number of the Quraysh came to al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah, who was a man of some standing, and he addressed them in those words: “The time of the fair has come round again and representatives of the Arabs will come to you, and they will have heard about this fellow of yours, so agree upon one opinion without dispute so that none will give the lie to the other.”   They replied, “You give us your opinion about him.”   He said, “No, you speak, and I will listen.”   They said, “He i...

When the Prophet (s.a.w.) Escaped an Assassination Attempt

Dr. Muhammad Muswthafa al-Badawi said, in the early days of prophethood, when the elders of Quraysh realised they were reaching the limits of what was possible to prevent the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) from conveying his Lord’s Message, they sat in council and Satan himself joined them, in the form of an old Najdi man.   Each suggestion they put forward he rejected, until Abu Jahl ‘Amr ibn Hisham suggested that if they wanted to murder Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ), but were worried about the revenge sure to be exacted by his clan and their allies, then they should choose forty men, one from each clan, to attack him as one man, so that his clan and their allies would find it impossible to exact revenge from all of them and their allies banded together.   This proposition was strongly supported by Satan and adopted unanimously by the elders.   Gabriel ( a.s. ) came to the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) saying, “Sleep not tonight in the bed in which you ...
