A Muslim Convert Once Before

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh ‘Utsman Nuri Tufbas wrote, in “The Prophet Muhammad Musthafah the Elect ( s.a.w. )”,  that Sayyidatina Hafswah bint ‘Umar ( r.a. ) was bereaved by her husband, who was martyred at the Battle of Badr.  Sayyidina Abu Hafsw ‘Umar ibn al-Khaththab al-Faruq ( r.a. ) first wished for Sayyidina Abu Bakr ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Utsman asw-Swiddiq ( r.a. ) to take his daughter’s hand in marriage.  Upon Sayyidina Abu Bakr ( r.a. ) turning down of the offer, offered her to Sayyidina Abu ‘Amr ‘Utsman ibn ‘Affan ( r.a. ), who also declined.  Sayyidina ‘Umar ( r.a. ) was saddened by their refusal.  Thus, by marrying Sayyidatina Hafswah ( r.a. ), the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) effectively appeased Sayyidina ‘Umar ( r.a. ) and, at the same time, mended the damaged relationships between Sayyidina Abu Bakr ( r.a. ), Sayyidina ‘Utsman ( r.a. ) and Sayyidina ‘Umar ( r.a. ).”
