A Muslim Convert Once Before

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ   In Majmu’ Fatawa wa Maqalat Mutanawwi’ah li Samahat ash-Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Abdullah ibn Baz , ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Abdullah ibn Baz himself wrote that it is not permissible to seek blessing from anyone other than the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), not from his wudhu’ , or his hair, or his sweat, or anything else from his body.   All of that applies only to the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), because of the goodness and blessing that Allah ( s.w.t. ) has Put in his body, and whatever he touches.   Hence the swahabah did not seek blessing from any one of their number during the lifetime of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), or after his death, nor with the Khulafa’ ar-Rashidin , or anyone else.   This indicates that they knew that this applied only to the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), and not to anyone else.   And because this is a means that could lead to shirk , and worshipping someone other than Allah ( s.w.t. ).   Similarly, it is not permissible to...

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Imam Shams ad-Din Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ahmad adz-Dzahabi ( r.a. ) was a student of  Shaykh Taqi’ ad-Din Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Halim ibn Taymiyyah  ( r.a. ).   However, he differed with his teacher on the issue of tabarruk , taking blessings from the relics of the pious.   He stated explicitly that those who opposed it were like the Khwarij .   He cited, as evidence, that Imam Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal ( r.a. ) himself, used to engage in tabarruk , from the relics of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ).   He wrote, in his Siyar A’alam an-Nubala’ , “‘Abdullah ibn Ahmad said, ‘I saw my father take a hair that belonged to the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), put it on his mouth, and kiss it.   I believe I saw him put it on his eyes.   He also dipped it in water and drank the water to obtain cure.   I saw him take the Prophet’s ( s.a.w. ) bowl, wash it in water, and drink from it.   I saw him drink Zamzam water in order ...

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Imam Shams ad-Din Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ahmad adz-Dzahabi ( r.a. ) wrote, in his Siyar A’alam an-Nubala’ , that Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal ( r.a. ), the son of Imam Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal ( r.a. ), said, “I saw my father take a hair that belonged to the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), put it on his mouth, and kiss it.   I believe I saw him put it on his eyes.   He also dipped it in water, and drank the water to obtain a cure.   I saw him take the Prophet’s ( s.a.w. ) bowl, wash it in water, and drink from it.   I saw him drink Zamzam water in order to seek cure with it, and he wiped his hands and face with it.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Imam Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal ( r.a. ) founded the Hanbali madzhab .  It was related, from Imam Ibrahim ibn ‘Abdullah al-Qalanisi ( r.a. ), that Imam Ahmad ( r.a. ) said, about the Sufis, “I do not know people better than them.”  This was recorded by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ahmad as-Saffarini al-Hanbali ( r.a. ), in Ghidha’ al-Albab li Sharh Manzhumat al-Adab .   Advising his son, Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Ahmad ( r.a. ), Imam Ahmad ( r.a. ) said, “O my son, you have to sit with the people of taswawwuf , because they are like a fountain of knowledge and they keep the remembrance of Allah ( s.w.t. ) in their hearts.  They are the ascetics and they have the most spiritual power.”  This was reported, by Shaykh Muhammad Amin ibn Fathullah Zadah al-Kurdi ( r.a. ), in his Tanwir al-Qulub .

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Imam Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal ( r.a. ), advising his son, Imam ‘Abdullah ( r.a. ), said, “O my son, you have to sit with the people of taswawwuf , because they are like a fountain of knowledge, and they keep the remembrance of Allah ( s.w.t. ) in their hearts.  They are the ascetics, and they have the most spiritual strength.”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Imam Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Husayn al-Bayhaqi ( r.a. ), in his Shu’ayb al-Iman , recorded that Imam ‘Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal ( r.a. ) said, “I heard my father say, ‘I performed haj five times; thrice on foot and twice riding,’ or he said, ‘thrice riding and twice on foot.’   ‘Once when I was on foot, I lost my way; I started to exclaim, ‘O Allah’s servants, show me the way.’   I kept on repeating this until I came back on track.’”

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ   The following is a prophetic supplication as recorded by Imam Abu ‘Abd ar-Rahman Ahmad ibn Shu’ayb an-Nasa’i ( r.a. ) and Imam Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal ( r.a. ).   Allahumma bi’ilmika al-ghayb wa qudratika ‘alaa al-khalqi ahyinii maa ‘alimta al-wa faat khayra lii.   Allahumma innii as’aluka khashyataka fii al-ghaybi wa ash-shahaadati.   Wa as’aluka kalimat al-haqq fii ar-ridhaa wa al-ghadhab.   Wa as’aluka na’iyma laa yanfadu.   Wa as’aluka qurrata ‘ayn laatanqargi’u.   Wa as’aluka ar-ridhaa ba’da al-qadhaa’i.   Wa as’aluka barda al-‘ayshi ba’da al-mawti.   Wa as’aluka ladzdzati an-nazhari ilaa wajhika wa ash-shawqa ilaa liqaa’ika fii ghayri dharaa’a mudhirratin wa fitnatinlaa mudhillatiin.   Allahumma jazzinaa biziinati al-‘iymaani waaj’alnaa hudaatan muhtadiin   O Allah, by Your Knowledge of the unseen and Your Power over all Creation, Grant me life as long as You Know that life is ...
