بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ The permissibility of performing the funeral prayer in absentia, for Muslims who passed away elsewhere in the world, rests on the following ahadits narrated by  Imam ‘Asakir ad-Din Abu al-Husayn Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj  ( r.a. ), in his Swahih , Kitab al-Jana’iz , mentioned below.   Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah ‘Abd ar-Rahman ibn Sakhr ad-Dawsi az-Zahrani al-Azdi ( r.a. ) narrated that the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) announced to the people, the death of the Negus, Sayyidina Aswhamah ibn Abjar an-Najashi ( r.a. ) on the same day that he passed away.   Then he went outside with them, to the place of prayer, and said “ Allahu Akbar ” four times.   Imam Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Sharaf an-Nawawi ( r.a. ) said, in his Sharh Swahih Muslim , that Imam Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn Idris ash-Shafi’i ( r.a. ), and those who agree with him, see in this hadits a proof for praying over the absent dead.   There is, in the hadits , an evident mir...

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ It is found in the books of tafasir , exegesis, the story behind the Revelation of some verses in Surah al-Buruj.   Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) said that among the people who came before, there was a king who had a sorcerer, and when that sorcerer became old, he said to the king, “I have become old, and my time is nearly over, so please send me a boy whom I can teach magic.”   So, he sent him a boy and the sorcerer taught him magic.   Whenever the boy went to the sorcerer, he sat with a monk who was on the way, and listened to his speech and admired them.   So, when he went to the sorcerer, he passed by the monk, and sat there with him; and on visiting the sorcerer, the latter would thrash him.   So, the boy complained about this to the monk.   The monk said to him, “Whenever you are afraid of the sorcerer, say to him, ‘My people kept me busy.’   And whenever you are afraid of your people, say to them, ‘The sor...

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ The following hadits is narrated by  Imam ‘Asakir ad-Din Abu al-Husayn Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj  ( r.a. ).  Sayyidina Jubayr ibn Muth’im ( r.a. ), a companion of the Messenger of Allah ( s.a.w. ), shared this story about himself.  He said, “One day, I was on the outskirts of Madina enjoying the company of women.  I was just sitting there, chatting with them, and I had no real business to be there but I loved their company.   When the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) passed by, he asked me ‘What are you doing with those women?’   I was so embarrassed, I had to make up a lie.  I told him ‘O Messenger of Allah, these women are making a rope for me for a camel that just keeps running away from me.’  I knew I was lying, and the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) knew I was lying, and it was a pathetic lie.  But the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) said nothing.  He smiled, and kept walking by.   The next day, I was in Madina and I he...

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ It is related by Sayyidina ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas ( r.a. ) that he once stayed the night as a guest of Sayyidatina Maymunah bint al-Harits al-Hillaliyyah ( r.a. ), who was his aunt, and the Prophet ( s.a.w. ).   They slept on their blanket lengthways, and he slept at the end, crossways.   After they had all slept for a while, the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) rose in the middle of the night to pray tahajjud , and Sayyidina ibn ‘Abbas ( r.a. ) joined him. They both performed wudhu , and he prayed eleven rak’ah with the Prophet ( s.a.w. ).   Then they both went back to sleep again until dawn.   Sayyidina Bilal ibn Rabah al-Habashi ( r.a. ) called the adzan and the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) did another two short rak’ah , before going into the mosque to lead swalah al-fajr . Sayyidina ibn ‘Abbas ( r.a. ) said that one of the ud’iyyah that the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) made during this night was, “O Allah, Place light in my heart, light in my tongu...
