Quora Answer: Is the Eucharist Really the Body of Christ (a.s.)?

Image
The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ How do we know if the Eucharist is really the body of Christ, and not just a symbolic gesture? ”   You are referring to the doctrine of Transubstantiation, which is a Catholic doctrine, within the Sacrament of the Eucharist.   It is a re-enactment of the Last Supper, which is an event found in all four canonical gospels.   Matthew 26:26-28 26 And while they were still at table, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat, this is my body.”   27 Then he took a cup, and offered thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink, all of you, of this; 28 for this is my blood, of the new testament, shed for many, to the remission of sins.”   26 Ἐσθιόντων δὲ αὐτῶν λαβὼν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἄρτον καὶ εὐλογήσας ἔκλασεν καὶ δοὺς τοῖς μαθηταῖς εἶπεν: λάβετε φάγετε: τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ σῶμά μου.

The Sharing Group Discussion: Ijma’ on the Crucifixion of Jesus (a.s.)

The following question was asked by Brother Shabaz Michael Amaddeo , on The Sharing Group, on the 06 th May 2016: “ Is there ijma’ on the crucifixion, or lack thereof, of Jesus ( a.s. )? ”   Brother Shabaz Michael Amaddeo : Allegedly there were taba’ tabi’un who claimed he was crucified, but I do not know if such opinions were proven wrong or not.   I am rather found of Isma’ili Christology, but I feel it inconsistent of me to latch onto the opinions therein.   BrotherTerence Helikaon Nunis : According to Fr. Georges Massouh, the Qur’an only Treats the question of Christ’s ( a.s. ) crucifixion in a single verse where it affirms that the Jews did not kill Christ ( a.s. ) but rather that this was Made to seem to happen to them.

Fear of the Agony of Death

Image
Imam Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Ghazali ( r.a. ), recorded, from earlier Aramaic texts, that when death was mentioned to Jesus ( a.s. ), son of Mary ( a.s. ) , his skin would perspire with blood.   Jesus ( a.s. ) said, “O Apostles, supplicate to Allah ( s.w.t. ) that He Make the agony of death easy for me because I fear death in a way that my fear introduces me to death.”

Quora Answer: If Jesus (a.s.) was Crucified Today, What is the Validity to the Islamic Claim to Disprove It?

Image
The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ If Jesus ( a.s. ) was crucified in today’s times, what would be the validity to the Islamic claim attempting to disprove it? ”   The verses of the Qur’an pertaining to Jesus ( a.s. ) are about events in the past.   This includes the verses on the crucifixion.   If Jesus ( a.s. ) were crucified in modern times, it either means the events in the past did not happen at all, or that Jesus ( a.s. ) came back and was crucified.   The first scenario would mean that Revelation would be different, whereas in the second, it would have no impact on the Qur’an.
