Kufa & Baswra Almost Went to Over over an Argument about Arabic Lexical Morphology
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ One of the major disagreements between the scholars of Kufa and those of Baswra, in the early days, was that the Kufans believed that the masdar comes from the verb; while the Basrans believed that the verb is taken from the masdar . These theoretical differences almost led to war between the two cities, a fact which led one professor of linguistics to opine, “They certainly had better priorities in those days when looking at pretexts for conflict.”
