Tijaniyyah Practices for Yawm al-‘Arafah

Image
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ The following is adapted from an article by Ustadz Fakhr ad-Din Uwaysi al-Madani.   The Day of ‘Arafah is the greatest day of the year, just as Laylat al-Qadr is the greatest night.   Besides lots of dzikr and du’a , the following has been the practice by the shuyukh of the Tijaniyyah for that sacred day and after.   The Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) used to fast on that day.   He also said that Allah ( s.w.t. ) will Forgive the sins of the past year, and the coming year, of the person who fasts on that day.   Shaykh Ibrahim ibn ‘Abdullah Niyas al-Kawlakhi ( q.s. ) used to say that this means that the person who fasts on that day will hopefully live another year.   We are encouraged to recite Ayat al-Hirsw , 360 times, before sunset with the intention of Protection, Mercy and Guidance for the whole year:   سُوۡرَةُ التّوبَة لَقَدۡ جَآءَڪُمۡ رَسُولٌ۬ مِّنۡ أَنفُسِڪُمۡ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيۡهِ مَا عَنِتُّمۡ حَ...

Blessings of the Ten Days of Dzu al-Hijjah

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ The first ten days of Dzu al-Hijjah are one of the Most Praised and Blessed holy days of the Muslim calendar.   Special attention should be paid to these days like fasting the first nine days unless in Makkah and Madina for haj .   Those fasting the first nine days of Dzu al-Hijjah are Blessed here and in the Hereafter by the Mercy, Peace, and Compassion of the Lord of the Heavens, Allah ( s.w.t. ).   The first ten days of Dzu al-Hijjah are amongst the most magnificent days in the Muslim calendar.   The Prophet ( s.a.w. ) said, “One fast during these days is equal to the fasting of one complete year, and the worship of one night during this period is equal to the worship in the Laylat al-Qadr .”   Every Muslim should avail of this wonderful opportunity by performing during this period as much ‘ibadah as he can.   The virtue of these ten days is confirmed in the Qur’an.   Allah ( s.w.t. ) Swears an oath by th...

Swalah al-Khuswama’

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ The ritual prayer for one’s adversaries in litigation, swalah al-khuswama’ , consists of four raka’at , with only one taslimah .   It is taken from al-Ghunya ath-Thalibi fii Thariq al-Haqq by Shaykh Muhyi ad-Din Abu Muhammad ibn Abu Swalih ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani ( q.s. ).   It is performed as follows:   1 st rak'ah : Surah al-Fatihah x1, Surah al-Ikhlasw x 11 2 nd rak'ah : Surah al-Fatihah x 1, Surah al-Ikhlasw x 10, Surah al-Kafirun x 3 3 rd rak'ah : Surah al-Fatihah x 1, Surah al-Ikhlasw x 10, Surah al-Takatsur x 1 4 th rak'ah : Surah al-Fatihah x 1, Surah al-Ikhlasw x 15, Ayat al-Kursi x 1.   The seeker must then donate the spiritual reward, earned by his performance of this swalah , to al-khuswama’ , his adversaries in litigation, so that Allah ( s.w.t. ) may Satisfy their claim on the Day of Resurrection, Yawm al-Qiyamah , if Allah ( s.w.t. ) so Wills.   This swalah may be performed on seven specifi...
