Zakariya (a.s.) Used Mary’s (a.s.) Place of Worship as a Wasilah

Image
Maryam’s ( a.s. ) place of worship was used as a wasilah , a means of approach, by Zakariya ( a.s. ).   Allah ( s.w.t. ) Says:   سُوۡرَةُ آل عِمرَان فَتَقَبَّلَهَا رَبُّهَا بِقَبُولٍ حَسَنٍ۬ وَأَنۢبَتَهَا نَبَاتًا حَسَنً۬ا وَكَفَّلَهَا زَكَرِيَّا‌ۖ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَ عَلَيۡهَا زَكَرِيَّا ٱلۡمِحۡرَابَ وَجَدَ عِندَهَا رِزۡقً۬ا‌ۖ قَالَ يَـٰمَرۡيَمُ أَنَّىٰ لَكِ هَـٰذَا‌ۖ قَالَتۡ هُوَ مِنۡ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرۡزُقُ مَن يَشَآءُ بِغَيۡرِ حِسَابٍ ( ٣٧ )   Right graciously did her Lord Accept her: He Made her grow in purity and beauty; to the care of Zakariya was she assigned.   Every time that he entered (her) chamber to see her, he found her supplied with sustenance.   He said, “O Mary!   Whence (comes) this to you?”   She said, “From Allah: for Allah Provides sustenance to whom He Pleases, without measure.” (Surah Ali ‘Imran:37)   In the very next verse, Allah ( s.w.t. ) Mentioned Zakariya’s ...

Fasting of the Elect

Image
Imam Abu al-Layts Naswr ibn Muhammad as-Samarqandi ( r.a. ) spoke about the fasting of the Elect: “if you want to fast like Jesus ( a.s. ), then know that he would fast all the time and lived on nothing but barley.”  He continued, “If, however, you want to fast as his mother, Mary ( a.s. ) did, then know that she used to fast for two days at a time and then eat for two days.  The fast of David ( a.s. ) consisted of fasting one day for 24 hours and breaking it the next day by a day in which he took food and drank.”

The Immaculate Conception: From Doctrine to Dogma

Image
The Immaculate Conception is a principally Catholic Doctrine that is greatly misunderstood.  As per the Encyclical Ineffabilis Deus of Pope Pius IX, Roman Catholic dogma states “that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instance of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege Granted by Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the human race, was Preserved free from all stain of Original Sin.”  The doctrinal belief is that from her conception, Mary ( a.s. ) received sanctifying grace that would normally come with baptism after birth.   Whilst the doctrinal definition makes no declaration about the Church’s belief that Mary ( a.s. ) was free from personal sin, the Church actually holds that Mary ( a.s. ) was also sinless personally, “free from all sin, original or personal,” as recorded in Encyclical Mystici Corporis .   In effect, the Council of Trent decreed, “If anyone shall say that ...

Mary (a.s.) is Mentioned More Times in the Qur’an than the Bible

Image
Mary ( a.s. ), the Virgin Mother of Jesus ( a.s. ), is Mentioned more times in the Qur'an than in the entire Bible.   She also has an entire chapter Named after her, Surah Maryam.   Her family also has a chapter Named after them, Surah Ali ‘Imran, since she is Maryam bint ‘Imran ( a.s. ).   Jesus ( a.s. ) is not Mentioned without Mary ( a.s. ) also being Mentioned.   He is referred to as “‘Isa bint Maryam”; “Jesus, the son of Mary”.   Surah an-Nisa’, the chapter “Women” is also indirectly Named after her.   Every chapter is numbered such for a reason.   Surah an-Nisa’ is the fourth chapter.   The Prophet ( s.a.w. ) said that four women are the foremost of the believing women in Paradise.   They are Sayyidatina Khadijah bint Khuwaylid ( r.a. ), his first wife; Sayyidatina Fathimah az-Zahrah ( r.a. ), his daughter; Sayyidah Asiyah bint Muzahim ( r.a. ), the wife of Fir’awn; and Maryam bint ‘Imran ( a.s....

The Lamb of God

Image
Since Mary ( a.s. ) is the mother of Jesus ( a s. ), and Jesus ( a.s. ) is the Lamb of God; therefore, Mary ( a.s .) did, indeed, have a little lamb.

The Assumption of the Virgin Mary (a.s.)

Image
The 15 th August is the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven, commonly known as the Assumption.    This feast day is celebrated by the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church and parts of the Anglican Church from among the Protestant denomination.   It commemorates the Virgin Mary ( a.s. ) bodily rising into Heaven at the end of her earthly life.   In many countries the feast is also marked as a Holy Day of Obligation.   It is Catholic dogma that the Virgin Mary ( a.s. ), at the end of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into “heavenly glory”.   Pope Pius XII dogmatically defined it on the 01 st November 1950, in the Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus, exercising his papal infallibility.   Both the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Church believe in the doctrine of Dormition of the Theotokos , which is essentially the Assumption.   However, the alleged physical deat...

The Book of Revelation: Paradoxical Symbolism

Image
Revelation contains a lot of symbolism.   It is an allegorical work that requires much thought, knowledge of scripture and history and a spiritual state to understand.   It is the most difficult book in the entire Bible to decipher.   The early Church fathers debated greatly as to its status, whether canonical or apocryphal, such was its controversial nature.   Paradoxical symbolism refers to a seemingly contradictory representation of an object, or a person.   It is a reversal of expectations or nature.   These symbols often involve two statements, where the first refers to something of a particular known nature related to or combined with another object of an opposite nature.   This is a literary device meant to highlight an important prophetic point.   It is not unique to Revelation.   It was a common device in prophetic language of the Near East and was not limited to the Revealed Religions. ...
