Quora Answer: Which Book of Ahadits was Written First?

Image
The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ Which book of ahadits was written first? ”   The swahifah are the earliest collections of ahadits , and written by the companions during the lifetime of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), or by their followers amongst the tabi’in .   Some of these collections are also considered rasa’il or kutub .   Examples of this include the Swahifah of Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah ‘Abd ar-Rahman ibn Sakhr ad-Dawsi az-Zahrani al-Azdi ( r.a. ), which he taught and handed down to his nine known students, one of whom was Shaykh Hammam ibn Munabbih ( r.a. ).   Shaykh Hammam ibn Munabbih ( r.a. ‎ ) was a scholar, from among the tabi’in and one of the narrators of hadits .   Shaykh Abu ‘Abdullah Wahb ibn Munabbih asw-Swana’ani adz-Dzamari ( r.a. ), the famed transmitter of ahadits as well as Judeo-Christian stories, was his brother.   Swahifah Hammam ibn Munabbih is the only example of this that...

Quora Answer: Are You a Revert or a Convert to Islam?

Image
The following is my answer to a Quora question: “ Are you a revert or a convert to Islam? ”   I am a convert to Islam, never a revert.   Some people state that we are “reverts” because of a hadits .   That is rubbish.   There is no such hadits stating that we are all born Muslims.   That is either a misunderstanding or a deliberate mistranslation of the hadits that is muttafaqun ‘alayh , from the Shaykhayn .   This is what happens when ignorant people try to teach Islam.   On the authority of Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah ‘Abd ar-Rahman ibn Sakhr ad-Dawsi az-Zahrani al-Azdi ( r.a. ), the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) said that we are born upon fithrah , and it is our parents who turn us into Jews, Christians or Zoroastrians.   The full text of the entire hadits is here:   فَإِنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ   كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا مِنْ مَوْلُو...

The Sharing Group Discussion: Discussing the Hadits on Rotten Meat & Infidelity

Image
Brother Yousuf Muhammed posted, on The Sharing Group, on the 14 th August 2019: “We need to study ahadits and deeply analyse what it means for ahadits to be swahih .   The following, I just cannot understand how this could have come from the Prophet ( s.a.w. ).   Husbands also betray their wives and the part about Israelis being responsible for meat rotting is just too ridiculous.”   The hadits in question was translated by the Wahhabi, Muhammad Muhsin Khan, from Swahih al-Bukhari , hadits 3330: Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah ‘Abd ar-Rahman ibn Sakhr ad-Dawsi az-Zahrani al-Azdi ( r.a. ) narrated, that the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) said, “But for the Israelis, meat would not decay and but for Eve, wives would never betray their husbands.”

Divine Protection from the Rule of the Boys

Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah ‘Abd ar-Rahman ibn Sakhr ad-Dawsi az-Zahrani al-Azdi knew what was coming because the Prophet had told him.  And so, he asked Allah to take him before he had to witness it.  Allah Accepted his supplication.  He died in 59 AH — one year before Yazid ibn Mu’awiyah assumed the Caliphate and one year before the events that would culminate in Karbala’. The Sources Imam Abu Bakr ‘Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abu Shaybah al-Kufi, the teacher of Imam Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn Isma’il al-Bukhari himself, whose Muswannaf is among the most significant hadits compilations of the classical period, recorded that Sayyidina Abu Hurayrah used to supplicate, “O Allah, Protect me from the sixtieth year and the rule of the boys.” Imam Shihab ad-Din Abu al-Fadhl Ahmad ibn ‘Ali ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani — whose Fath al-Bari , the definitive commentary on Swahih al-Bukhari , remains the most authoritative explanation of that collection — wrote in explanation: “He was referri...
