Quora Answer: When was the Battle of Badr?

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The following is my answer to a Quora question: “When was the Battle of Badr?” 

The Battle of Badr was fought on the 17th Ramadhan 2 AH, in the Hijaz, at the Wells of Badr.  It was the first major ghazwat, battle, led by the Prophet (s.a.w.), in the early days of Islam, between the Quraysh and the Muslim community of Madina.  The battle was a decisive victory to the Muslims due to Divine intervention.  It is a battle of the converts, since the Muslims were all converts to Islam.  It is one of the few battles specifically mentioned in the Qur’an. 

سُوۡرَةُ آل عِمرَان

قَدۡ ڪَانَ لَكُمۡ ءَايَةٌ۬ فِى فِئَتَيۡنِ ٱلۡتَقَتَا‌ۖ فِئَةٌ۬ تُقَـٰتِلُ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَأُخۡرَىٰ ڪَافِرَةٌ۬ يَرَوۡنَهُم مِّثۡلَيۡهِمۡ رَأۡىَ ٱلۡعَيۡنِ‌ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُؤَيِّدُ بِنَصۡرِهِۦ مَن يَشَآءُ‌ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٲلِكَ لَعِبۡرَةً۬ لِّأُوْلِى ٱلۡأَبۡصَـٰرِ (١٣) 

“There has already been for you a Sign in the two armies that met (in combat): one was fighting in the Cause of Allah, the other resisting Allah; these saw with their own eyes twice their number.  But Allah does Support, with His Aid, whom He Pleases.  In this is a warning for such as have eyes to see.” (Surah Ali ‘Imran:13)

The Du’a of the Blind Man

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ It is narrated, from a hadits , that a blind man approached the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), and asked for a cure for his blindness.   This hadits is recorded in Jami’ at-Tirmidzi ; Sunan ibn Majah ; Musnad ibn Hanbal ; Mu’jam al-Kabir , by Imam Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn Jarir ath-Thabari ( r.a. ); and Mustadarak ‘ala Swahihayn , by Imam Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah al-Hakim an-Nishaburi ( r.a. ).   The version from Sunan ath-Thabari has slightly different words, but has the same general meaning. The Kufr of ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Abdullah ibn Baz

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Abdullah ibn Baz was the former Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia.  He was a man who waged war upon the ummah , a reviler of the awliya’ , and a takfiri of the scholars.  This was the man who demanded that the Rawdhah of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) be levelled.  He opposed swalawat and any display of affection towards the one that Allah ( s.w.t. ) Called the best of Creation. This is the face of Shaythan .  He was a kafir and a munafiq .
