Quora Answer: Can Muslims Attend a Non-Muslim Funeral?

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The following is my answer to a Quora question: “Can Muslims attend a non-Muslim funeral?

On what basis would it be haram to attend the funeral of non-Muslims, when the Prophet (s.a.w.) himself stood up in respect when the funeral procession of a Jew passed by.  When people ask these questions, we have to doubt their understanding of faith.  If Islam made this haram, why would people want to convert to Islam?  Does this means we cannot attend the funerals of our non-Muslim family?  That would obviously be illogical.
