A Lesson in Seeking Refuge in the Truth

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ 

Once, when Shaykh Habib ibn Muhammad al-‘Ajami al-Baswri (q.s.) was sitting in front of his khanaqah, his takkiyah, Shaykh Abu Sa’id ibn Abu al-Hasan Yasar al-Baswri (q.s.) came running.  Shaykh Hasan (q.s.) said, “O Habib, hide me, because Hajjaj, the Caliph’s governor, has sent his soldiers to catch me.  Hide me!” 

Shaykh Habib (q.s.) said. “Go in and hide yourself.” 

Shaykh Hasan (q.s.) went in and found himself a hiding place.  The soldiers came running and asked Habib (q.s.), “Have you seen Hasan al-Baswri?” 

“Yes, I saw him inside.  He is hiding.” 

They went in and looked around.  They looked everywhere, even looked directly at Shaykh Hasan (q.s.).  It is said they searched the khanaqah three times after Shaykh Habib al-‘Ajami (q.s.) insisted that Shaykh Hasan (q.s.) was inside.  Finally, the soldiers scolded Shaykh Habib (q.s.), “How could a man like you tell a lie?” 

“Inside, I am not lying.  He is inside.”  They could not see him and left angrily. 

Shaykh Hasan al-Baswri (q.s.) came out.  “O murid, what is this?  I came to you asking you for help, and you told the soldier where I was.” 

“O my Shaykh, you were saved by my truth.  I told the truth and Allah (s.w.t.) Protected you by it.  I entrusted you to Him, and recited Ayat al-Kursi.”

The Du’a of the Blind Man

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ It is narrated, from a hadits , that a blind man approached the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), and asked for a cure for his blindness.   This hadits is recorded in Jami’ at-Tirmidzi ; Sunan ibn Majah ; Musnad ibn Hanbal ; Mu’jam al-Kabir , by Imam Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn Jarir ath-Thabari ( r.a. ); and Mustadarak ‘ala Swahihayn , by Imam Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah al-Hakim an-Nishaburi ( r.a. ).   The version from Sunan ath-Thabari has slightly different words, but has the same general meaning. This du’a is a du’a for hajat , when there is a need.   It is also a du’a asking for spiritual sight in this world, for those who are blind to Allah ( s.w.t. ) in this world may be blind to Him in the next.   How can we see His Majesty and be in the Divine Presence when we are blind to His Presence in this world.   One cannot look at the shadow and still see the light.   One cannot look at the world and expect to fin...

The Kufr of ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Abdullah ibn Baz

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Abdullah ibn Baz was the former Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia.  He was a man who waged war upon the ummah , a reviler of the awliya’ , and a takfiri of the scholars.  This was the man who demanded that the Rawdhah of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) be levelled.  He opposed swalawat and any display of affection towards the one that Allah ( s.w.t. ) Called the best of Creation. This is the face of Shaythan .  He was a kafir and a munafiq .
