The Omnipresence of the Prophet (s.a.w.)

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The following was adapted from the work of Dr. Jibril Fu’ad Haddad.

Imam Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn al-Khafif ash-Shirazi (q.s.) said, in his al-‘Aqidah asw-Swahihah, that the Prophet (s.a.w.) is knower of what is, and what shall be, and he gave news of the unseen.  This means, in the sense of being Imparted, by Allah (s.w.t.), whatever He Imparted to him.  Shaykh Muhammad Adib ibn Ahmad al-Kallas (q.s.) said, “Note that ibn Khafif did not say ‘He knows all that is, and all that shall be.’”

Shaykh ‘Abd al-Hadi ibn Muhammad al-Kharsa said that the Prophet (s.a.w.) possesses knowledge of all that is, and knows the Created universes in the same way that one knows a room in which one sits.  Nothing is hidden from him.  There are two verses of the Qur’an that Affirm this:

سُوۡرَةُ النِّسَاء

فَكَيۡفَ إِذَا جِئۡنَا مِن كُلِّ أُمَّةِۭ بِشَهِيدٍ۬ وَجِئۡنَا بِكَ عَلَىٰ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ شَہِيدً۬ا (٤١)

How then, if We Brought, from each people, a witness, and We Brought you as a witness against these people! (Surah An-Nisa’:41)

Thus, have We Made of you an ummah justly balanced, that you might be witnesses over the nations and the Messenger a witness over yourselves ... (Surah al-Baqarah:143)

The Prophet (s.a.w.) cannot be called to witness over what he does not know nor see.

The above evidence is confirmed by the narration from Sayyidina Abu Sa’id Sa’id ibn Malik al-Khazraji al-Khudri (r.a.), that the Prophet (s.a.w.) said, “Nuh and his community shall come, and Allah (s.w.t.) will Ask, ‘Did you convey My Message?’

He shall say, ‘Yes, indeed, my Lord.’

Then He will Ask his community, ‘Did he convey My Message to you?’

And they will reply, ‘No, no prophet came to us.’

Then Allah (s.w.t.) will ask Nuh, ‘Who is your witness?’

And he will reply, ‘Muhammad, and his community.’

Then, we will bear witness that he conveyed the Message indeed, and this is His Saying, ‘Thus, have We Made of you an ummah justly balanced, that ye might be witnesses over the nations.’”  This ummatan wasathan, translated as “middle ummah”, means “upright”, from “wasath”.
