Muhammadan Perfection

Image
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ The following is an article by Ustadz Fakhr ad-Din Uwaysi al-Madani.   The purpose of this existence was Allah’s ( s.w.t. ) Desire to Create Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ).   It was Allah’s ( s.w.t. ) Eternal Love for Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ), which was His Love for the image of His Own Perfection.   The Qur’an Testifies that Allah ( s.w.t. ) has been Praising Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) forever.   This Praise and Love for Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) was not due to any dependency or need of Allah ( s.w.t. ) for Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ).   Rather, it was because Allah ( s.w.t. ) had Eternally Decided to Manifest His Own Perfection, Beauty and Glory through the Creation of the being of Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ).   Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ), then, is the most perfect, most complete and most beautiful Creation of God.   He is also the greatest Sign of God, and the complete Pathway to Him.   Many schol...

Reflecting on Our Relationship with Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.)

Image
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ The following is a transcript of discourse delivered by Mawlana Wafi’ Muhammad.   We are in the Blessed month of Rabi’ al-Awwal; a month that represents a truly great Blessing from Allah ( s.w.t. ) in that He Sent Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) to mankind.   Allah ( s.w.t. ) Sent Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) after He sent 124,000 Messengers to every nation and tribe.   The previous Messengers delivered the Message in their own language in order for their people to understand.   With Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) however, Allah ( s.w.t. ) Sent the Message in His Own Language.   Imam al-Ghazali ( r.a. ) wrote, “Fifty thousand years before Creation, Allah ( s.w.t. ) Recited Surah ThaHa and Surah YaSin.”   So, Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) was Selected to give the original message in its entirety.   And in addition to giving the da’wah , Allah ( s.w.t. ) Gave Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ) a special mission.   Allah ( s....

The Heart of a Believer

Image
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ   The following is adapted from a swuhbah from Shaykh Muhammad Nazhim Adil al-Haqqani ( q.s. ) on the 20 th April 2010.   Shaykh Nazhim ( q.s. ) says billions of people receive Guidance and realign their lives based on a single hadits of Rasulullah ( s.a.w. ).   To understand the deeper matters in religion would be very difficult without support.   We need the support of someone who can open the door to these treasures.   The keys to unlock such treasures have been Given by Allah ( s.w.t. ) to some of His servants, the Chosen.   These Chosen are those who have completely abandoned dunya .   They are purified, constantly striving to increase in their understanding.   Pure milk is clean but if it is poured into a dirty pot, that milk would immediately become contaminated and impure – it must then be thrown away.   Allah ( s.w.t. ) does that not pour heavenly grants of pure illuminated knowledge int...

Tawaswswul in the Shafi’i Madzhab

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Hafizh Khathib al-Baghdadi Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn ‘Ali ash-Shafi’i ( r.a. ) narrated, in Tarikh al-Baghdadi , that the truthful, swaduq , Qadhi al-Husayn ibn ‘Ali as-Saymari ( r.a. ) narrated to them, that the trustworthy, tsiqah , Imam ‘Umar ibn Ibrahim ibn Ahmad al-Muqri ( r.a. ), told him, that the trustworthy Shaykh Makram ibn Ahmad ( r.a. ) told them, that Shaykh ‘Umar ibn Ishaq ibn Ibrahim ( r.a. ) told them, that the trustworthy Shaykh ‘Ali ibn Maymun ( r.a. ) told them, “I heard ash-Shafi’i say, ‘I swear I seek the blessing of Abu Hanifah and come to his grave every day.   Whenever I have a certain need, I pray two rak’ah , then I come to his grave and ask Allah Most High for my need at his grave, and little time passes until it is fulfilled.’”   Imam Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Sharaf an-Nawawi ( r.a. ), in describing the manners and etiquette of making pilgrimage to the shrine of Prophet Muhammad ( s.a.w. ), wrote, “The pilgrim shoul...

Seeing the Prophet (s.a.w.)

Image
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ Shaykh Taj ad-Din Abu al-Fadhl Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Atha’illah as-Sakandari ( q.s. ), in Latha’if al-Minan , narrated from his teacher, Shaykh Shahab ad-Din Abu al-‘Abbas Ahmad ibn ‘Umar al-Mursi ( q.s. ) that his teacher, Imam Abu al-Hasan ‘Ali ibn ‘Abdullah ash-Shadzili ( q.s. ) said, “If I stopped seeing the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) for even one moment, I would consider myself no longer a Muslim.”   Imam Shihab ad-Din Abu al-Fadhl Ahmad ibn ‘Ali ibn Hajr al-‘Asqalani ( r.a. ), Imam Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Sharaf an-Nawawi ( r.a. ), and others all agree that no one possessed of a heart and mind can object to standing for the sake of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), and that this is desirable and recommended not only in the time of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) but until the end of time.   Hafizh Abu Musa al-Asbahani ( r.a. ) passed away in 581 AH, more than five centuries after the time of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), and yet stood for him in the present ten...

The Wahhabi “Shaykh al-Islam” on Mawlid & Dzikr

Image
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ The following is extracted from  Shaykh Taqi’ ad-Din Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Halim ibn Taymiyyah ’s ( r.a. ) opinion on the celebration of Mawlid , and the deviation of “ Salafiyyah ” from his opinion.  This is Shaykh ibn Taymiyyah’s ( r.a. ) opinion about Mawlid from Majma’ Fatawa ibn Taymiyyah , and his Iqtidha’ asw-Swirath al-Mustaqim , from the section, “The Innovated Festivities of Time & Place.”   In it, he wrote, “And similarly what some people innovate by analogy with the Christians who celebrate the birth of Jesus ( a.s. ), or out of love for the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) and to exalt him, and Allah ( s.w.t. ) may Reward them for this love and effort, not on the fact that it is an innovation.  To celebrate and to honour the birth of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) and to take it as an honoured season, as some of the people are doing, is good and, in it, there is a Great Reward, because of their good intentions in honouring the Prophet...

Fatwa of Forty-Five Scholars on Visiting the Prophet’s (s.a.w.) Grave

Image
بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ A century ago, eleven major scholars of the Ahl as-Sunnah in India issued a fatwa on the lawfulness of travelling with the explicit intention of visiting the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) in response to the following questions: What do you say concerning travelling to visit the Prophet ( s.a.w. )?   Which do you prefer for the traveller at the time of undertaking travel: to intend to visit the Prophet ( s.a.w. ), or to intend also to visit the mosque?   For someone said, “One travelling to Madina must not intend other than the Mosque of the Prophet.” The reply was reproduced in full in the book al-Mufannad al-Muhannad , and Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Alawi al-Maliki ( q.s. ) again reproduced it recently in his book, Shifa’ al-Fu’ad bi Ziyarat Khayr al-‘Ibad .   This fatwa was subsequently approved and co-signed by scholars of Makkah, Madina, Egypt, and Syria. These are the scholars who signed the fatwa .   The scholars from India we...
