Quora Answer: What Do Muslim Men Think of Women Who Do Not Wear the Hijab?

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The following is my answer to a Quora question: “What do Muslim men think of women who do not wear the hijab?

Men should not concern themselves with the fashion of women, whether with or without the hijab.  The Qur’an has Commanded us to lower our gaze.  How is the gaze lowered, if we are discussing how women dress?  I tend to be wary of scholars who have so much to say about how women dress and behave.  If their gaze is lowered, how do they have such a comprehensive opinion about these women?  The hijab is a personal issue, and it should be left to the women, and female scholars to discuss them.  I am firmly of the opinion that people who do not swim, should not give advice on swimming.
