The Najdi Rejection of the Prophet’s (s.a.w.) Glad Tidings

Image
Wahhabism is the protestant reformist movement that arose in the Najd, claiming to be true Muslims, and declaring actual Muslims to be heretics and polytheists.   The basis of this accusation is their literalist interpretation of Scripture, and limited conception of Divine Oneness, claiming any form of intermediation to be polytheism.   To them, seeking intercession and a means to God is idolatry and a negation of monotheism. The founder of the Wahhabi sect, Muhammed ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab is genealogically descended from Banu Tamim.   Historically, they were known to be rebellious, and disrespectful of the Prophet ( s.a.w. ). Sayyidina ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar ( r.a. ) narrated that the Prophet ( s.a.w. ) said, “O Allah!   Bless our Sham and our Yemen.” Some people said, “Our Najd as well.” The Prophet again said, “O Allah!   Bless our Sham and Yemen.” They said again, “Our Najd as well.” When this happened the third time, the Pro

The following is adapted from Signs on the Horizons by Shaykh Harun Michael Sugich. “The Holy Mosque was an ocean of humanity during the days before the haj , the annual pilgrimage to Makkah.   As daylight faded, I joined thousands of worshippers and pilgrims making the thawaf , the seven circuits around the Ka’bah , calling out His Divine Names.   As time approached for the sunset prayer, circular prayer lines formed around the House of God, rank by rank, closing around the vast mathaf , the white marble floor surrounding the House all the way to the raised arcades designed by Sinan Pasha in the 16 th century.   The mathaf was reduced, line-by-prayer-line, as individual worshippers peeled off from the shrinking thawaf to take their places in the encroaching ranks.   I completed my seven circuits only moments before the call to prayer. In a state of exaltation and hope, I knew that within this ocean there were deep seas of light and k

The following is taken from the teachings of Shaykh Muhammad Nazhim Adil al-Haqqani ( q.s. ).   They are instructions for observance of the Day of ‘Arafat , given on the 01 st November 2011. Recite 100 x Laa ilaha illa Allah wahdahu laa shariikalah lahu al-mulku wa lahu al-hamd yuhii wa yumiit wa huwa ‘alaa kulli shay’in qadiir 100 x Surat al-Ikhlasw 100 x Subhaanallahi wa al-hamdulillahi wa laa ilaaha illa Allah wa Allahu Akbar 100 x Istighfar 100 x Swalawat ‘ala an-Nabi ( s.a.w. ) For those with the capacity, recite 1,000 times, and complete it before sunset.   This was the practice of Shaykh ‘Abdullah al-Fa’iz ad-Daghistani ( q.s. ).

Was Azar the Father of Abraham (a.s.)?

Image
Due to the nature of the Arabic language, and the limitations of the translations, there is some confusion on the father of Abraham ( a.s. ), according to the Qur’an. Abraham said to his father, Azar, “Take you idols for gods?   For I see you, and your people in manifest error.” (Surah Al-An’am:74)   سُوۡرَةُ التّوبَة وَمَا كَانَ ٱسۡتِغۡفَارُ إِبۡرَٲهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ إِلَّا عَن مَّوۡعِدَةٍ۬ وَعَدَهَآ إِيَّاهُ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ ۥۤ أَنَّهُ ۥ عَدُوٌّ۬ لِّلَّهِ تَبَرَّأَ مِنۡهُ‌ۚ إِنَّ إِبۡرَٲهِيمَ لَأَوَّٲهٌ حَلِيمٌ۬ (١١٤)   And Abraham prayed for his father’s Forgiveness only because of a promise he had made to him.   But when it became clear to him that he was an enemy to Allah, he dissociated himself from him: for Abraham was most tender-hearted forbearing. The Sharing Group Discussion: Why are Only Muslims Allowed in the Haramayn?

Image
Brother J. E. Mikell posted the following, on The Sharing Group, on the 27 th April 2015. He asked, “What is the scholarly, textual evidence that supports ‘Muslims only’, in Makkah and Madina?   Does anyone know?”   Brother Colin Turner : Good question. It has always seemed ridiculously exclusive, and I can think of no textual evidence that I recall - although I am not the most widely-read muhaddits in the world.   Sister Allison Hedrick : Indeed, I would love to see this justification.   Brother Ishaq Mohammed : Most, including the ruling Saudi Government, cite the following as the reason for the restriction:   سُوۡرَةُ التّوبَة يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِنَّمَا ٱلۡمُشۡرِكُونَ نَجَسٌ۬ فَلَا يَقۡرَبُواْ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدَ ٱلۡحَرَامَ بَعۡدَ عَامِهِمۡ هَـٰذَا‌ۚ … (٢٨)   O you who believe!   Truly the pagans are unclean; so, let them not, after this year of theirs, approach the Sacred Mosque … (Surah at-Tawbah:28)   Now, of co

Demolishing the Wahhabi Rejection of Tawaswswul

Image
The following is extracted from Imam Jamil Swiddiqi ibn Muhammad Faydhi az-Zahawi al-Kurdi’s ( r.a. ), al-Fajr as-Swadiq fi ar-Radd ‘ala Munkiri at-Tawaswswul wa al-Khawariq , “The True Dawn: A Refutation of Those Denying Miracles and Intercession in Islam”.   The Wahhabis declare any Muslim a disbeliever for contradicting their unwarranted innovations in our religion, and the way they ascribe to that person idolatry.   They take, as a pretext for their declaration of disbelief, the seeking of help from the prophets and awliya’ and their use of the latter as a means to Allah ( s.w.t. ) and the visiting of their graves.   The Wahhabis have rejected these practices, and claimed they are haram .   The Wahhabis have made their rejection of the mustaghitsin , those seeking aid; the mutawaswswilin , those using persons as means of access to Allah ( s.w.t. ); and the za’irin , those visiting graves; especially intense.   They consider them actual
