Quora Answer: Does the Qur’an Allow Respect for Other Religions?

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The following is my answer to a Quora question: “Does the Qur’an allow Muslims to respect other religions?

There are quite a few verses in the Qur’an that Mention respecting the non-Muslims, freedom of religion, and protecting places of worship and clergy from desecration.  You could have googled that.  The Qur’an is the foundational scripture of Islam.  If Islam did not respect the plurality of faiths, there would be no Christians and Jews in the Middle East, and no Hindus in India.  The fact that these religions not only survived, but flourished, is testament to this obvious fact.  Respecting other faiths is not “allowed”; it is a Divine Command.
