Crucifixion was Never Done by Nailing through the Hands

The Gospel according to Luke states the following:

Luke 24:39, 40

39 “Look at my hands and my feet, to be assured that it is myself; touch me, and look; a spirit has not flesh and bones, as you see that I have.”  40 And as he spoke thus, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

In the passage above, Jesus (a.s.) offered his hands and feet to Apostles and the brethren to prove that it was indeed him, returned from the dead, with the marks of crucifixion.  The problem, here, is that in crucifixion the nails never driven through the hands because the bones were too weak to hold the body.  The nails were always driven through the wrists.  It could be argued that χεῖράς, (cheiras) can, in exceptional occasions, include the wrists, but in the sixty or so times this word, and versions of it have appeared, it has been specific to the hands.  That has been the understanding of the Christians.

  1. Hi Terence, quite correct, through the wrists. Though Stigmatists always receive the stigmata through their palms.

    1. The reason is because stigmatas are fake. Padre Pio is an example.
