Mercy Comes before Knowledge

Shaykh Muhammad ibn Yahya an-Ninuwy said, “In Surah ar-Rahman, Allah (s.w.t.) Introduces Himself as ‘ar-Rahman, the One Who Taught the Qur’an’.  Notice the ayah starts with Mercy before Knowledge?  There is a message in that for us, that mercy comes before knowledge.  If you have knowledge but no mercy, then you are a loaded cannon ready to unleash, and make the lives of people miserable.  Have mercy before knowledge, as mercy and forgiveness are the two wings you fly with to Allah (s.w.t.).  If you break one of the wings, you cannot fly properly.  If you take away mercy, you are taking the heart of the Diyn.”

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

(Allah) Most Gracious!  It is He Who has Taught the Qur’an. (Surah ar-Rahman:1-2)
