The Qassam Rocket

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The Qassam is an artillery rocket developed, and deployed by the ‘Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas.  They were first used in 2001, and are simple steel projectiles.  In the Israeli, and foreign media, all manner of rocket projectiles fired from the Palestinian side, or attributed to them, no matter which faction, are called Qassam rockets.

What is not generally known is that the Qassam rocket was named after Shaykh ‘Izz ad-Din ‘Abd al-Qadar ibn Muswthafa’ al-Qassam (q.s.), who passed away in 1935.  He was a Tijani Sufi, a great mujahid who fought the British, the French, and Zionist forces in the Levant, and Libya.  He fought the foreign invaders and occupiers of Muslim lands.  He was martyred fighting the British, in Palestine.
