A Poor Man’s Charity

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Habib ‘Ali Zayn al-‘Abidin ibn ‘Abd ar-Rahman al-Jifri said, on Sayyidina Uways ibn ‘Amir al-Qarni (r.a.), “Uways al-Qarni, he was so poor that he gathered food from discards.  Yet, he also gave his share to the orphans, and poorer people.  He used to say, ‘O God, do not blame me for a human that slept from hunger.’  And he had no money or food.”  What, then, is our excuse for not giving in charity?
