بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The shaykh of al-Hujjatullah, Imam Abu Hamid Muhammad ibn Muhammad al-Ghazali (r.a.), was the Naqshbandi shaykh, Shaykh Abu ‘Ali Fadhl ibn Muhammad al-Farmadi ath-Thusi (q.s.).  This is mentioned in the preface for Ihya’ ‘Ulum ad-Din.  Shaykh al-Farmadi (q.s.) was the 8th shaykh in the Naqshbandi silsilah, chain, of transmission of spiritual knowledge.
