The Sciences before His Eyes

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Imam Shams ad-Din Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ahmad adz-Dzahabi (r.a.) reported, in his ad-Durrat al-Yatimiyyah fi asw-Swirath at-Taymiyyah, that Imam Taqi’ ad-Din Muhammad ibn ʻAli ibn Daqiq al-‘Iyd (r.a.) said, upon meeting with Shaykh Taqi’ ad-Din Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Halim ibn Taymiyyah (r.a.), “I saw a man with all the sciences before his eyes, taking what he wished and leaving what he wished.”  Asked why he did not debate him, Imam ibn Daqiq al-‘Iyd (r.a.) answered, “Because he loves to speak and I love silence.”
