Imam ibn Daqiq al-‘Iyd (r.a.) on Shaykh ibn Taymiyyah (r.a.)

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Imam adz-Dzahabi (r.a.) reported, in his ad-Durrat al-Yatimiyyah fi asw-Swirath at-Taymiyyah, that Imam ibn Daqiq al-‘Iyd (r.a.) said, upon meeting with Shaykh ibn Taymiyyah (r.a.), “I saw a man with all the sciences before his eyes, taking what he wished and leaving what he wished.”  Asked why he did not debate him, Imam ibn Daqiq al-‘Iyd (r.a.) answered, “Because he loves to speak and I love silence.”
