Imam as-Sayrafi (r.a.) on Imam al-Ash’ari (r.a.)

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The jurist, Imam Abu Bakr as-Sayrafi (r.a.), said, “The Mu’tazilah were prominent and used to hold their heads up high until Abu al-Hasan detained them back to a corner and halted their efforts.”  He was referring to the great theologian, Imam Abu al-Hasan al-Ash’ari (r.a.).
