The Religion is Submission

The religion before Allah is submission to His will ... (Surah Ali ‘Imran:19)

On this verse, Shaykh Muhyi ad-Din Abu Muhammad ibn Abu Swalih ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani (q.s.) said, haqiqah, the reality. of lslam is istislam, submission and obedience; that which is required of us is tahqiq, actual practice, of Islam, and then the actual practice of submission and obedience.  We must purify our zhawahir, outer natures, through islam, and we must purify our bawathin, inner natures, through submission and obedience.  We must sallimu, surrender, our own selves to our Lord.  And we must be content to accept His Management.  We must give up our own power in exchange for the Power which our Lord has Decreed.  Whatever qadr, destiny, may bring, we must treat it as something to be welcome.  Our Lord Knows us better than we know ourselves.  We should respond to His Words with good pleasure.  We must greet His Commandments and His Prohibitions with readiness to comply.  We should offer a hearty welcome to the hardships He Inflicts upon us and prove that we have the courage of our convictions, by wearing our badge on our sleeves.
