Du’a for Allah’s (s.w.t.) Protection from Calamities & Misfortunes

The following du’a was taught by one of my shuyukh, Shaykh Ahmad ‘Arif.  I normally recite it after every swalah as part of my wirid and dzikr.  However, I end the du’a with the recitation of swalawat.

Allahumma anta Rabbii laa ilaha illaa anta ‘alayka tawakkaltu wa anta Rabbu al-‘Arsh al-Kariim.  Mashaa’Allahu kaan wa maa lam yashaa’ lam yakun, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa bi Allaahi al-‘Aliyyi al-‘Azhiim.  A’alamu anna Allaha ‘alaa kulli shay’in qadiir wa anna Allaha qad ahaatha bikulli shay’in ‘ilmaan.  Allahumma innii a’udzu bika min sharri nafsii wa min sharri kulli daabbat anta anta akhidzun binaaswiyatihaa inna Rabbii ‘alaa swiraatin mustaqim.

O Allah!  You are my Rabb, there is no deity besides You.  I put my trust in You and You are the Rabb of the Noble Throne.  Whatever Allah Wishes, happens.  And whatever He does not wish, will not happen.  And there is no power or defense except Allah`s, the most High, the Greatest of all.  I know that definitely Allah has Power over everything and that Allah has Encompassed everything in Knowledge.  O Allah, I ask You Protection against the evils of my self, and against the evils of all living things, that You only have Complete Power over them.  Definitely my Rabb is on the right path.

Sayyidina Abu Darda’ Uwaymir ibn Zayd (r.a.) was a great swahabah and the bond brother of Sayyidina Abu ‘Abdullah Salman al-Farisi (r.a.).  He was a trader of the al-Harits clan of Banu Khazraj and converted to Islam after the Battle of Badr.  He later became a qadhi in Syria during the reign of the caliph, Sayyidina Abu ‘Amr ‘Utsman ibn ‘Affan (r.a.).  He passed away in Syria in 32 A.H. / 652 A.D.  He was buried with his wife, Sayyidatina Umm al-Darda’ al-Kubra’ (r.a.) and their maqam can still be seen.
