A Martyr’s Praise of the Prophet (s.a.w.)

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

This poem was written by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Juzay al-Kalbi al-Gharnathi (r.a.), who was martyred in the Battle of Tarifa, also known as the Battle of Rio Salado, defending the lands of the Muslims against the invading Christians.

“I desired to praise the Chosen One and was hindered

By my own inability to grasp the extent of his glory.

How can one such as I measure an ocean, when the ocean is vast?

And how can one such as I count the stones and the stars?

If all of my limbs were to become tongues, even then –

Even then I could not begin to praise him as I desired.

And if all of creation gathered together in an attempt

To praise him, even then they would stint in his due.

I have altogether ceased trying – awestruck, clinging to courtesy,

Tempered by timidity, glorifying his most exalted rank.

Indeed, sometimes silence holds within it the essence of eloquence,

And often speech merely fodder for the faultfinder.”

  1. I really like your views. Its the hypocrisy of media that they project Islam in a rubbish way.

  2. Assalamu'Alaikum,

Thank you. I agree with the views. The article was written by Jihad Hashim Brown (cool name, huh?).

  3. Having done some journalism myself, I can tell you with absolute certainty that the media are simply looking for a good story. There's usually very little in the way of a hidden agenda, unless you're reading a particularly skewed publication (Morning Star UK etc). It's merely that your newspaper is much more likely to be read if you can do a massive expose of something completely unfamiliar to most of the audience; in this case Islam.
I'm an extremely skeptical agnostic, and as I see it, why bother? Is religion really THAT important?

  4. I'm a Muslim, but I'm extremely cynical about much to do with Man.

Religion becomes very important when politicians want to get elected and when we want to send people to war.

Religion becomes personally important when we decide we don't want to go to the Great Barbeque Down Under (Hell / Hades / Tarterus / Naraka etc.)
