That is another deception on their part. Theirs is not the 'aqidah of Imam Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Hanbal. They adhere to the Neo-Atsari 'aqidah of Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab an-Najdi, that kafir who started this sect.

There are other posts written by me, that explain Sufi practices, including the "veneration of saints". That is part of Orthodox Islam. It is ignorance for anyone to claim otherwise.Terence Nunishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06071127118103190470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8724924986866131547.post-69181675122712187012023-06-22T16:09:09.919+08:002023-06-22T16:09:09.919+08:00A very interesting and compelling read. So much of...A very interesting and compelling read. So much of it was personally relatable. The beginning parts most especially.

Some thoughts for possible updated versions:

While I found this extremely beneficial I think it’s riddled with inaccuracies and slight exaggerations that detract from the case the author is building. For starters I don’t believe any Salafi believes asharis or sufis are nonbelievers (perhaps this was the case when this was written well over a decade ago).

We also could’ve done away with the defence of sufi practices. I don’t think the arguments were particularly convincing or comprehensive.
Best left and dedicated to a separate blog. In a separate blog he should also provide an honest account of athari aqeedah as opppsed to considering salafis outside of the Sunni tradition. Ironically he’s guilty of committing the same practice as salafis in this regard. Finally by the end of the blog the tone shifts from being reflective and a personal account of the author’s journey to being arguably spiteful and malicious towards Salafi’s (another ironic turn). By the end, Words like poisionous, deceptive and deviant are regularly employed to describe Salafis. His partisanship is more pronounced in his veneration for sufi saints that he does not qualify or place them in the same conversation with Quran and Sunnah let alone below it. Example would be his saying, “What words of comfort are better than those written in the books of the Sufi saints?”
I don’t know… maybe the Quran? That said, it can be argued what is understood doesn’t need to be said and so no controversy here but his unabashed partisanship for Sufism and derision for Salafism by the end feels like a return to the evangelical Salafi convert at the beginning of the story. Maybe his fractured relationships were as much a result of his crass/brazen nature as they were salafiyyah in this case. Criticisms aside (and perhaps I had too many) this was a wonderful read and a beautiful journey. Would love to read about updates on his journey from Islam to Islam. Many thanks and may Allah bless and reward you infinitely. Sufis had allowed me to participate in circles of dhikr, and put up with me, exhibiting great Sabr.
I began to notice - all the great Sufi saints had Muslim names - why was that? Finally, after literally thousands of hours chanting, "La illaha illallah!", saying "Muhammad rasuulallah" made perfect sense. I never was attracted to the "salafi dawh" of the time, because I had read enough about Islam to know that "debating" Christians and other Ahl al-Kitab was haram - Qur'an commands, to seek out and discuss what we believe in common; so, Ahmad Deedat was clearly in violation of Quranic commands. (besides - Deedat's organization promoted a video of him debating a noted Christian evangelical preacher, Jerry Falwell; and they claimed the video proved that Deedat had defeated Falwell. I found the same video at the Falwell's organizations' website - and they said the footage proved that Falwell's arguments had defeated Deedat!) I had also met people involved in the "Salafi dawah", who seemed most insistent on telling me that my Christian family was in the Hellfire. My Christain grandmother was the best Mu'min I have ever known; and my Christian mother not far behind her. Anyone calling my grandmother and my mother "kafir" was clearly astray, and not worth listening to - I knew they were not just wrong, but profoundly insulting. In what culture in the world, is it acceptable adab to call someones' mother and grandmother "kafir"? Does Islam permitsuch grave insult to ones' family, to ones' mother or grandmother? Did the Messenger of Allah (s.a.s.) ever call anyone "kafir"? I could tell, these "salfis" were clearly astray!
Rashid Patchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10672337207255586087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8724924986866131547.post-26114541154351726372017-03-26T20:28:21.837+08:002017-03-26T20:28:21.837+08:00Wa Alaikum Salam, welcome to Islam and may Allah m...Wa Alaikum Salam, welcome to Islam and may Allah make your journey on this path and easy one.
