Why the Pious are Alive in Their Graves

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The attribute of living does not belong to the body, but to the soul.  And that is why when the soul departs, the body starts to decompose.  That attribute is gone.  And that is also why the prophets and the pious are alive in their graves.

The sign of the of the non-living body is that everything we eat is already dead, and decomposes within us, to be defecated.  And the sign of the living body is that the soul is fed from worship and remembrance of God, and worship is alive with a Light from the Divine.

On the Day of Rising, there will be those who have spent their lives feeding their soul and not their physical appetites, and they will be infused with lights.  And there will be those who have wasted their lives feeding their physical appetites and not their spiritual ones, and these can barely stand, let alone cross the Swirath.  Thus, our fasting is not merely the restraint of our physical appetites, but a buffet for the soul, and our other acts of worship, are another course of this feast.  It is a means to prepare for the trial of that Day.
