Quora Answer: What Would Islam be Like if It Only Relied on the Qur’an, instead of Ahadits?

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The following is my answer to a Quora question: “What would Islam be like if it only relied on the Qur’an, instead of the ahadits?

In a nutshell, it would not be Islam.  There is no Islam without the example of the Prophet (s.a.w.).  As Shaykh Abu al-Huda Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Ya’qubi himself said, “It is ‘Muhammadan Rasulullah’ that makes us Muslim.  The Qur’an is also clear in innumerable verses that the Prophet (s.a.w.) is the best example, that we should follow that example, and the prerequisite of being a believer is love of the Prophet (s.a.w.), and his sunnah.
