The Sincerest Prayer

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

A scholar was very sick, and the community decided to fast one day and pray for his recovery.  As they did this, they noticed the town drunk drinking liquor.  They immediately rebuked him, saying, “Today is a day of fasting!  Stop drinking.  Everyone is praying for the shaykh’s recovery!”

When the town drunk heard this, he began praying, “Dear Lord, I ask You to Help our shaykh recover, so that I can have my liquor.”

The scholar soon made a miraculous recovery, and after hearing of the drunkard’s prayer, he said, “Bless that drunkard.  His prayer was probably the main factor in my recovery, for it was supremely sincere, and had his entire heart and soul in it!”
