Who is or is Not a Muslim?

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Muslims are interesting, especially born Muslims.  Their conception of who is or is not a Muslim is based on shallow vacuous notions of dress and ethnicity.  So, if someone does not look Muslim, they might not return their salaam.  But if someone looks Muslim, and then engages in the most outrageous acts of barbarity, or voices doctrinal positions that are clearly contrary to our theology, there is no shortage of fools defending these miscreants, “because we do not know what is in their heart”.

This is not religion.  This racism and hypocrisy masquerading as piety.  Is it so wrong to return the salaam, or do these people worship a version of “Allah” that penalises good thoughts of others?
