Joseph’s (a.s.) Gift

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Mawlana Jalal ad-Din Muhammad ar-Rumi (q.s.) wrote, “A friend of the Prophet Joseph (a.s.) returned from a far journey.  Joseph (a.s.) asked, ‘What present have you brought me?’

The friend replied, ‘What is there you do not possess?  What could you need?  Since there is no one on Earth more beautiful than you, I have brought a mirror so that every moment you may look into it and contemplate your own beauty.’

Thus, we must ask ourselves, what is there that God does not Possess?  What does He need?  He needs nothing.  And so simply bring, before God, a heart, crystal clear, so that He may See His Own Perfection.  God looks not at your form, nor at your deeds, but at your heart.”
