“Islamophobia” is a Weasel Term

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The words we use, the terms we choose, the manner in which we frame them, they all determine how people address us and the subject matters we raise.  As Muslims, we have to take control of the conversation pertaining to our interests.

There is no such thing as “Islamophobia”.  “Islamophobia” is a weasel term that hides the meaning of what it really is.  A phobia is, “an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.”  It is a form of anxiety disorder, a mental condition.

Fear of Islam and Muslims is not a mental condition.  It is not even fear.  It is nothing more than discrimination, and bigotry.  Hate, and ignorance, should not be dignified as a form of phobia.  We should not even entertain this notion that there is such a thing.  We should call it what it is: anti-Muslim bigotry.
