The Prophet’s (s.a.w.) Gratitude

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Qadhi Abu al-Fadhl ‘Iyadh ibn ‘Amr al-Yahsubi (r.a.) wrote, in his ash-Shifa’ bi Ta’rif Huquq al-Muswthafa, “Our Beloved Prophet (s.a.w.) would stand in prayer so much that his feet became swollen.  When he was asked why he burdened himself in such a way when Allah had already Given him the status of Forgiveness for past and future-wrong actions, he replied, ‘Should I not be a grateful worshipper?’”
