To be Mindful of Our Actions

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The following is adapted from an extract of Risalah al-Mustarshidin by I Imam Abu ‘Abdullah al-Harits ibn Asad al-‘Anazi al-Muhasibi.

Allah (s.w.t.) Mentions, in the Qur’an:

سُوۡرَةُ القِیَامَة

أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتۡرَكَ سُدًى (٣٦)

Does Man think that he will be left uncontrolled, (without purpose)? (Surah al-Qiyamah:36)

There are several explanations given by the ‘ulama regarding this verse.  Do people think that they will be left alone, uncontrolled and free to do as they chooses without consequences to their actions, neither in this world or the next; that they have no accountability before Allah (s.w.t.) and them being Blessed to enter Heaven or dispensed of Hell?  Do they think that they will be left alone without any moral responsibilities?  Do they think that they will be left without a higher purpose?  Do they think that they will be abandoned and forsaken by their Lord?  All our actions fall under these five rulings - understand them and act accordingly.
