Turn Our Face in the Direction of the Sacred Mosque

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The following is adapted from a swuhbah from Shaykh Muhammad Nazhim Adil al-Haqqani (q.s.) on the 05th March 2010.

Shaykh Nazhim (q.s.) reminded us to honour Fridays.  Even the Christians honour Good Friday, but for us, all Fridays are good.  The Jews honour Saturday, the Christians honour Sunday, but Friday comes before Saturday and Sunday in the week.  It is an honour that our holy day precedes theirs.  Every Friday in Paradise, Allah (s.w.t.) will Invite the ahl al-jannah to a Divine feast, to bask in the tajalli a’azham so Juma’ah is honoured, not only in dunya, but also in akhirah.  Each Friday in Paradise, these Blessings are Increased; the inhabitants of Jannah receive never ending pleasure and honour.  People of this time are heedless.  They pay no attention to the hereafter, and what lies beyond it.  Shaykh Nazhim (q.s.) sent salam on those who honoured their Fridays.

We are in the Last Days now.  Allah (s.w.t.) Says in the Qur’an:

سُوۡرَةُ البَقَرَة

وَمِنۡ حَيۡثُ خَرَجۡتَ فَوَلِّ وَجۡهَكَ شَطۡرَ ٱلۡمَسۡجِدِ ٱلۡحَرَامِ‌ۚ ... (١٥٠)

So from whencesoever you start forth turn your face in the direction of the Sacred Mosque; and wheresoever you are turn your face there ... (Surah al-Baqarah:150)

In the old days, humanity worshipped idols such as Zeus.  Today, he has made dunya an idol and their support.  Allah (s.w.t.) Says, turn our face to Baytullah, the Ka’bah, the House of the Lord.  And discard all the worldly idols of our life.  We must stop making this worldly pursuit our main aim in life and our worldly treasures our support.  As long as we yearn and strive for this dunya, we cannot save ourselves in this world and in the hereafter.  Allah’s (s.w.t.) Command to turn our faces to the House of the Lord means to make the Divine our ultimate target in life.  Though we cannot see the Ka’bah with our eyes from here, we should train the gaze of our spiritual eyes on the Ka’bah and make the seeking of Divine Pleasure, the attaining of servanthood, as the reason for our existence here.  What is the Ka’bah?  Is it simply a four-walled structure built by Ibrahim (a.s.) and Isma’il (a.s.)?  No.  It represents a Divine Destination that we must aim for.  It is a source of Divine support from which we tap.  The comforts of dunya are miniscule in comparison.

The Seal of Prophets (s.a.w.) was orphaned at a tender age.  His father passed away when he was still in the womb and his mother died when he was between four and five years old.  He was a helpless child born in an unknown desert, having no education or worldly riches.  Living amongst idol worshippers and warring tribes, he was alone with no one to support him, only Allah (s.w.t.).  Many illustrious kings in history, had massive armies and majestic palaces, yet where are they today?  Like a shooting star, their star burned bright for a brief period in history, before they disappeared into oblivion.  And what of Rasulullah (s.a.w.)?  Coming from such an unlikely place, without any education, army or family, he succeeded.  His name is remembered by billions around the world since that time, and we are all reciting, “Laa ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad ar-Rasulullah.”  Powerful rulers have disappeared.  We do not even know many of their names.  But that weak orphan has brought his message to billions.  Who Helped him?  Who Supported him?

Without Divine Support, we will not be able to progress in our spiritual journey.  We are in need of constant Divine support.  Why are the Muslim nations buying more and more weapons?  Like fools, they spend billions of dollars on the latest weapons, when that money could be put to better use.  We do not need weapons.  We need to have faith in Allah (s.w.t.).  When Sayyidina Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqasw (r.a.) along with Sayyidina Abu ‘Abdullah Salman al-Farisi (r.a.) led a small Muslim army from Madina to Iraq, they reached the Tigris, and had no means to cross it.  The Persian armies, under the Sassanian emperor, Khosrau II, waited on the other bank.  They far outnumbered the Muslims, who occupied just two kilometres of the bank.  Sayyidina Sa’d (r.a.) read, “Bismillahi tawakkaltu ‘ala Allah” and the entire Muslim army, with their horses and weapons, galloped across the river towards the surprised enemy.  The demoralised Persians were swiftly defeated.  The Muslim armies, under the Caliphate of Sayyidina Abu Hafsw ‘Umar ibn al-Khaththab al-Faruq (r.a.), conquered the entire Persian Empire, never troubled by larger and better equipped Persian armies.  Thus Divine Support suffices.

The Prophet (s.a.w.) said that a Muslim army of 20 000, can never be defeated.  Why are we not seeing this now?  Muslims have lost their faith in Divine Support.  We tremble before dunya and love it so dearly that we have lost our way.  We must believe in Allah (s.w.t.) and His Messenger (s.a.w.); depend on His Support, and we are saved.  Those who follow this advice will be saved; those who reject it will fall into Jahannam.
