The Disaster of Forgetting Allah (s.w.t.)

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The following is adapted from a swuhbah from Shaykh Muhammad Nazhim Adil al-Haqqani (q.s.) on the 17th December 2009.

Disaster or difficulty befalls us because we have forgotten Allah (s.w.t.).  Each time we become heedless, Allah (s.w.t.) Sends his Divine Curses upon us and our lives becomes tumultuous.  But for those who are always with Allah (s.w.t.), Allah (s.w.t.) Says:

Those who believe (in the Qur’an) and those who follow the Jewish (Scriptures) and the Christians and the Sabians, any who believe in Allah and the Last Day and work righteousness, shall have their Reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. (Surah al-Baqarah:62)

In the recent economic crisis that shook the world, no one was spared - the poor, the rich, ordinary citizens and world leaders - were all affected.  The crisis brought internal and external sufferings to many; it made them lose their peace of mind and happiness.  Many resorted to drinking alcohol to drown their sorrows.  Countries, long proud at being world leaders, have suddenly been brought to their knees.  Overnight, fortunes were wiped out, economies were crushed, and currencies became worthless.  What would happen if Allah (s.w.t.) Sends down a second or third wave of economic disasters?  The world would be brought to the brink of ruin.

Through this crisis, Allah (s.w.t.) Showed the powerful that it is not they who hold the reins of this world.  Allah (s.w.t.) is the Omnipotent One.  This world is under Divine Control, not human control, and He only has to Open a tiny crack on the surface of this earth, and many people will be helplessly swallowed.  Allah (s.w.t.) Sends a clear warning to all who have transgressed Allah’s (s.w.t.) Limits.  Allah (s.w.t.) Reminds us that He did not Create us to collect wealth or property in this worldly life.  We must realise the purpose we was Placed on earth.  It was not to amass wealth, for this world and all its contents, have no value in the Divine Presence.  We  should not be running after what has no value in Allah's (s.w.t.) Eye.

For every question, there is an answer in the Qur’an, if only we choose to seek for the answer there.  For every disease, there is a cure.  For every problem, there is a solution.  Allah (s.w.t.) is Most Kind and never cruel.  He Gives the cure, the answer, the solution to all that ails us if we are humble enough to seek help from Him.  So many people read the Qur’an, in Makkah and Madina, so many have memorised the Qur’an, having completed the reading of the Holy Book thousands of times, yet what have they learned from this reading?  Is the Book only to be read, without anyone extracting its secrets and guidance?

The solution to this economic crisis lies in an ayat in Surah ath-Thalaq:

سُوۡرَةُ الطّلاَق

...وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجۡعَل لَّهُ ۥ مَخۡرَجً۬ا (٢)

… And for those who fear Allah, He (Ever) Prepares a way out (Surah ath-Thalaq:2)

People have no fear for Allah (s.w.t.) today.  They fear to speak the truth for fear of losing their position or their means of sustenance.  For example, some are building skyscrapers, just as foretold by Rasulullah (s.a.w.) fourteen centuries ago.  It is act of Namrud who defied Allah (s.w.t.), it is an act that displeases the Prophet (s.a.w.).  A life lies between two breaths.  If one breathes in, and Allah (s.w.t.) does not Give Permission for him to breath out, he dies.  And if he breathes out, and Allah (s.w.t.) does not Give him Permission to breathe in again, he dies.  Advise and speak the truth, do not fear loss of status or sustenance.

Early in this century, Allah (s.w.t.) Sent an earthquake to China of magnitude 8.5 on the Richter Scale, and one million people died.  It is easy for Allah (s.w.t.).

سُوۡرَةُ الاٴنعَام

... يَقُولُ ڪُن فَيَڪُونُ ... (٧٣)

…He Says, “Be”  Behold!  It is ... (Surah al-An’am:73)

Allah (s.w.t.) can Destroy this earth in the blink of an eye.  No one is safe from any disaster, unless he is Protected by Allah (s.w.t.).  Without Divine Protection, we will perish.  We must tear ourselves away from dunya, and set our sights on pleasing Allah (s.w.t.) if we want safety in this world and in the hereafter.  The Day of Judgement is very, very near.
