The Essence of Islam

بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

The essence of peace is submission.  The essence of submission is faith.  The essence of faith is certainty.  The essence of certainty is knowing.  The essence of knowing is Truth.  And that Truth permeates Reality from the Divine Presence beyond the Furthest Lote Tree.  It is a Light, through which Creation dissipates like a dream.  It is the annihilation of other than the Truth.  And that is Islam.

They may convince some that Islam is peace through submission.  Since Creation submits willingly or unwillingly, only willing submission leads to faith.  Faith itself is a journey; never the destination.  It is the middle path paved by shari’ah and lit by thariqa’.  But that path can only be walked by those of certainty.  Without it, the seeker is led astray.

There are three levels of certainty.  The first is the one who is certain because he has some knowledge of it.  And that is the majority of the believers.  The next is the certainty of those who have seen and tasted.  They are the Exalted.  And finally, there is the certainty of those who have ceased to be and become.  They are of those who are the Elect.  They have thirsted beyond thirst.  They will never be sated, for they are immersed in the Ocean of Power.

Those who have imbibed beyond knowledge such that that knowledge has become intrinsic, are the knowers.  They are of those who are inspired and may not always explain how they know what they know, for such knowledge is Given, never learned.  Allah (s.w.t.) is al-Haqq.  He is the Truth; He is the Reality.  He is the Lamp.  And Creation is the Light.  It does not exist save that the ego believes that it is separate.  And the dzat of Allah (s.w.t.) is Hu.
